This is a drink that is for the “girly” person in your life. It has a nice amount of fruit, mixed with the right amount of booze. It is reminiscent to the tropical notes of the 21st century Mai Tai, but with a small twist to make it seem like you worked hard on it.
As you can tell by the picture, I put a little extra Demerara Syrup in there to sweeten it up, and give it a nice mix of color.
Without further ado, here’s how you make it:
1.5 oz. Light Rum
0.75 oz. Orange Curacao
Barspoon of Maraschino Liqueur
1.5 oz. Pineapple
1 oz. Lime Juice
2 dsh Cherry Bitters
1 dsh Angostura Bitters
Add all ingredients to a mixing glass with ice, and stir.
Strain into coupe, or cocktail glass.
Garnish with some Maraschino Cherries.
Feel free to add a little extra demerara syrup to taste.
It is also supposed to be garnished with Lime zest, but time got away from us, and we had to hurry.
Review: Pineapple is a very robust flavor, and it will take over the whole drink if you add a whole lot more than 1.5 ounces. Also, please feel free to add bitters to taste, if you want more cherry notes, or something. Drinking is about personality, of course, so don’t feel like it HAS to be drank this way. I think if I made another one, I would split the rum half light, and half spiced, to give it that hint of spices, and have the liquor cut a little more through the pineapple. All in all, it was delicious. We had a friend sit in with us for our photos, and she loved it. So, it is fine the way it is.
