Rough Seas Ahead

Turner Bartending, back at it again! Making cocktails with a purpose!

The purpose of this one, is to prove that the Manhattan is good, but everything can benefit from some Averna! I have been on a serious Averna kick, lately. I’m putting it in everything. No cocktail is safe from the deliciousness that is the sweet/bitter combo of Averna. Ok, I’ll hop off my soap box.

Here’s how it’s made —

Rough Seas Ahead
1.5 oz. Bourbon
0.5 oz. Averna
0.5 oz. Sweet Vermouth

Stir all ingredients over ice.
Strain into a chilled coupe.
Float a wide orange peel.

Review: If you have ever had a Manhattan, or a perfect Manhattan, or any Manhattan variant, then this is the drink for you. It has all the notes that you know and love from the original drink, but adds that slight, subtle undertone of bitterness. If you were being extra fancy, you could dash a bit of orange bitters in there, to tone up the citrus that is imparted ever-so-slightly by the orange peel. Aryn, our photographer, is an avid drinker of the Manhattan, and he was pleased with this rendition.

If you make one, please feel free to let us know what you think in the comments, or back over on Facebook. =]

Enjoy! See ya next time.
