This is the Funeral at Home. Thusly named, because you’re celebrating the death of your liver (very slowly) a with every other drink. =p
We made this, because we wanted something that looked good, and we wanted to do a riff on the Old Fashioned. Check it out.
Here’s how it went down —
Funeral at Home
1.5 oz. Aged Rum
1 oz. Campari
0.75 oz. Averna
0.5 oz. Mezcal
2 dsh Peychaud’s bitters
Stir all the ingredients over ice.
Strain into rocks glass over 1 large cube.
Garnish with “fat” orange twist.
Notes: This drink is actually REALLY good, for having such a high concentration of bitter ingredients. Is it the best drink I’ve ever made? No, but it is surprising how the aged rum and the mezcal mix together and make something that is as good as it is. The Averna helps hold it together with that touch of sweetness, as well. It is definitely a nice switch for someone who drinks a lot of Whiskey drinks, since the aged rum has that wood-y flavor.
