Interesting clip for the inspiration for the name. A good friend of mine once recommended that I try to draw inspiration for cocktail names from songs, and in my quest to think about song names and lyrics, I usually wind up thinking about some sort of movie quote, or show quote.
This is pretty much a throwback to the classic style of making cocktails. I won’t bore you with too many of the details in the foreword.
Here’s how we did it —
Blood, Blood, Blood…
1.5 oz. Cognac
0.25 oz. Campari
0.33 oz. Maraschino Liqueur
2 dsh Barrel-Aged Bitters
Stir all ingredients over ice
Strain into a chilled coupe
Garnish with some original Maraschino cherries
optional — extra cherry juice for added sweetness and visual effect
Notes: This drink wound up being just the right amount of sweet. I feared that I had used too much cherry juice trying to obtain the effect for the image, but it was pretty much perfect. You can also drop the cherries in the drink, and let them steep. The cognac hits all the right notes, and the Campari was used sparingly, as it tends to be such a focal point of everything it is used in; thus it was time to just let it sing back up vocals on this number.
